Last week, AMD (Computer Chip Company) announced a new computer chip, custom made for Generative AI models like ChatGPT.
This is not AMD’s first rodeo though.
AMD has been fiercely competing with Intel (Computer CPU company) for a few years now, releasing faster computer chips than Intel at half the price.
AMD has always shied from going into AI training chips, a category that was dominated by Nvidia (a computer graphics chip company) for so many years.
Nvidia has been on a long streak of wins, being the biggest name in the game, their products are very hard to find. Nvidia graphics cars are very popular among gamers, crypto, and now AI.
Lately, Nvidia’s market cap jumped 33% in one day. (see picture of the stock below). This is because all big tech companies (Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft) have to pile on AI training chips made by Nvidia to train their own ChatGPTs.
NOT SO FAST.
Lisa Su (AMD’s CEO) has a track record of delivering, working hard, and getting things done. She is not going to make this easy for Jensen Jung (Nvidia’s CEO). She is out to hunt him down, wearing a leather jacket too. Perhaps this new product launch from AMD is just the beginning of a long fierce competition ahead.
What do you think?
